GST

Also known as: Goods and Services Tax

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is India's unified indirect tax on the supply of goods and services, charged at each stage of the supply chain with credit for tax paid on inputs.

GST replaced a patchwork of central and state taxes (excise, service tax, VAT) from 1 July 2017. It is a destination-based, multi-stage tax: every registered business charges GST on its outward supplies and claims credit for GST paid on its purchases, so the tax effectively falls on final consumption.
